If the employee will do not so, have them sign a statement to that effect. Upon returning the car, do the same and request that an employee to physically examine the car upon its return and sign off that there were no damages. If you find that you are going to have to rent from one of the companies at the Rapid City airport, then I advise you to thoroughly check the vehicle from stem-to-stern and photograph it before you leave the lot. (Many, if not most, of these non-owner policies do not cover for damages to the rental car itself in an accident and if the local companies do not offer CDW insurance, then they probably will not rent to you.) Even if you find that that the price of the non-owner insurance policy is within your budget, I would not recommending purchasing it until you also check with the local car rental company to make sure that they will accept it. As Roadrunner says, you will want to discuss this type of policy with an insurance agent because it may: 1) not be cost-effective for a single rental and/or 2) not provide the type of coverage that you need to rent from one of the local Rapid City companies. ![]() There are policies called "non-owner policies" which are purchased by people who do not own cars but often rent them.
